TESDAmayan Siargao
In the interest of the service and in line with the newest policy on TESDA’s standard operating procedure for disaster response and support to calamity-affected Regional Offices, a Regional Buddy System assignments relative to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette was implemented. Region III was assigned to CARAGA region and immediately requested personnel/trainers to provide workforce complementation and technical services to the counterpart region.
On January 3, 2022, RTC-Mariveles team led by Center Administrator Neil Santioque with the following staff namely: Mr. Noli Bautista (trainer SMAW, Pipefitting, Scaffolding), Mr. Henry Ocampo (trainer Electrical & Solar), Mr. Norman Buan (trainer Electronics/Electrical), Mr. Cyril Bebiro (Electrical & Refrigeration), Ms. Daisy Gonzales (trainer Food Processing), Job orders Mr. Jayson Ymbong & Jose Elagio (Electrical & SMAW) attended a send-off program in TESDA Central Office which was led by Secretary Lapeña. Together with them, were other TESDA trainer-volunteers from different regions to be deployed to the Odette-stricken areas. Around midnight, Region 3 augmentation team consists of 35 volunteers from different provinces boarded C-130 plane of Philippine Air Force and landed on Surigao Del Norte equipped with the tools and materials which will be used for the provision of assistance to the victims. They also carried cash donations and other equipment for the construction of damaged infrastructures.
The team provided building renovation in Siargao Manpower Livelihood and Skills Training Center and agreed to have a Training Cum Production program for construction related sectors which will help shelter beneficiaries. They also installed and donated Solar Night Lights per municipality and Solar Powered Cellphone Charging Station. The agency in partnership with the LGU came up with a Project called “Libre Bubong, Libre Training in Siargao” made the construction worthwhile. This is part of the TESDAmayan initiative which aims to help our fellow kababayans who were severely affected by the typhoon by providing livelihood and skills training related to construction and food production.
With the training cum production, the trainees themselves, through the actual guidance and support of the trainers will be able to rebuild their damaged houses. The team even provided pack of relief goods and meals for the people.
All the hardships and efforts of the team were replaced by the heartwarming thanks and smiles of our kababayan in Siargao.
